In its most simplistic form all you really need is a ball. Informal football games can happen anywhere that you have space and can also have fewer than eleven (11) players. You dont even need to have shoes on!
If you are planning on playing formally in a team or league then you will need a few things.
Firstly you will need some football boots or soccer cleats (as they are called in the USA). These are special shoes that have studs on the underside to help you keep a good grip while you play. Indoor football matches are played with plain running shoes since the floors require a different type of grip compared to an outdoor grass field.
